Over the past few years all VAG vehicles have had the old style
mechanical dashboards replaced with new digital ones. The main reasons for this are down to cost and reliability.
These days it is cheaper to build an electronic dashboard than the old mechanical style dash boards. Unfortunately
this new technology has it's own set of problems. Electrical pulses in the car's electrical system can cause the
data in the dashboards onboard eeprom / MCU to become corrupt.
This could happen for example
if:
The
vehicles battery has become discharged and the car had to be jump started causing the mileometer to jump.
The
vehicle may have been in for repair / service and the battery had to be
disconnected.
The
dashboard may develop an electrical fault.
The
dashboard may have been damaged in an accident or through vandalism.
The
speedo may have failed and you were forced to replace it with a new or second-hand unit.
This in turn causes the wrong reading to be displayed on your mileometer and will make selling your car very difficult.
If the new reading is low then the purchaser may think you have clocked the speedo. If the reading is high then
the value will be lower. This is where we can help by re programming the onboard eeprom / MCU / Micro with the
correct data. The new data overwrites the old data and the change becomes undetectable. This means that you will
be able to realise the full market value for your car when sold.
We offer a professional service using the very latest hand held
equipment specifically designed for mileometer correction. Some of our competitors use cheap Chinees clone machines
and or downloaded PC based software which can wipe all the information off of the memory chip inside your dashboard
including additional information, such as chassis number / VIN. number, immo coding etc. Our equipment leaves all
other information intact. Some vehicles are easily calibrated through the diagnostic port / OBD2 port without the
need to remove the clock / instrument cluster. while others will need the dashboard to be removed. Most VAG models
now record the mileage in other units hidden in the vehicle. Our service makes sure all units are re-programmed
including the ECU. CAN gateway and key module where fitted.

Mileage correction - is it Illegal?
NO! Re Calibrating / Adjusting a car speedo / odometer reading
is not a criminal offence, however clocking your speedo and selling the Vehicle with the intention to defraud is
quite a serious offence. Please note that you should disclose to any prospective purchaser that you have had the
odometer adjusted / corrected when selling your vehicle. |
